Meet Our Team:

Madi Keay

Kia ora, I’m Madi, Founder and Strategic Advisor at The Charity Collective.

I’m based in Christchurch and work nationally across Aotearoa, supporting charities and community organisations to strengthen their strategy, funding, and ways of working. Alongside my work with The Charity Collective, I am the General Manager of a national health charity and currently sit on three not-for-profit boards, which gives me a practical, governance-informed perspective on what it takes to lead sustainable, effective organisations.

My academic background spans economics, Māori and Indigenous Studies, and sustainable development, with a Master of Sustainable Development Goals focused on disaster response. I’ve spent my career working across strategy, fundraising, operations, and governance, often in environments where people are required to wear many hats and deliver impact with limited resources.

I’ve developed funding strategies and campaigns for organisations ranging from small grassroots groups to large, New Zealand-wide charities, and I’ve also worked on the funder side, allocating grants through philanthropic trusts and government processes. This has given me a clear understanding of what funders are looking for, and how organisations can position themselves strongly while staying true to their values.

As part of helping you get to know the people behind The Charity Collective a little better, we’ve each shared an issue we hope to see meaningfully addressed in our lifetime. For me, it’s reducing family and domestic violence in Aotearoa, and seeing our country lead with prevention-focused, community-led approaches that create safer futures for everyone.

At The Charity Collective, I work across all areas of our offering, with a particular focus on strategy, planning, and organisational effectiveness. I enjoy partnering with people who care deeply about their work and want support to do it well, sustainably, and with integrity. I look forward to connecting with you soon!
